ZAGREB 2 IN 1 - CLASSIC & GREEN TOUR

Experience the city of specific charm and hospitable people in the company of our guide. They'll take you through the city's past and present, tell you Zagreb's story, its myths and legends. You'll see our landmarks such as Zagreb's cathedral, the oldest pharmacy in Kamenita street, Kamenita vrata (Stone gate), the favourite market – Dolac, where you can talk to its famous sellers called 'kumice', the Upper town with the renown church of St Marko, the building of Croatian parliament, the shortest furnicular in the world – Zagreb's furnicular, Lotršćak tower. The legend says that a beautiful girl called Manda took some water from that place to give it to a tired and thirsty soldier returning from battle – our guide will tell you how the city got its name and how it is connected to this legend.

It is time for a short coffee break at one of the numerous cafés in the city centre. After the break we head to our 'green adventure' and a stroll through Zagreb's parks - the so-called Green horseshoe or Lenuzzi's horseshoe, which consists of seven squares and a garden in the Lower town. You'll enjoy their colours and scents . We'll start our walk at Zrinjevac park where you can see the busts of some of the most important Croatian personalities, and we'll end this walk at one of the most beautiful square – Marshal Tito's square dominated by the Croatian National Theatre. Here, our stroll ends.

Itinerary
Your guide will meet you in front of Gradska Kavana Restaurant & Café on the main city square and give you the short introduction in city's cultural and gourmet background before you reach Dolac – the most picturesque open air market in the city.
In just few steps you will be in front of the Cathedral of St. Stephen and Archbishop's towers and halls. Following the Kaptol Square and neighboring streets you will get to famous Tkalciceva Street – pedestrian zone with plenty of cafés, restaurants, gourmet shops and galleries. The route will lead you further to stone pebbled Radiceva Street and The Stone Gate - remaining of strong city walls. Now, you will enter different, enchanting Zagreb returning back to 15th and 16th century. Step by step you will discover all major sights of Upper Town: St. Catherine's Square with baroque church, St. Mark's Square with House of Parliament, House of Government and St. Mark's Church with it's picturesque roof arriving panoramic spot beneath The Lotrscak Tower. Return to Lower Town by funicular.
Coffee break and sweet refreshment in Kraš Choco Bar – owned and managed by famous Croatian chocolate and sweets factory celebrating 100th anniversary. Following the net of streets of Lower Town, passing Flower Square towards the Marshal Tito Square with three important landmarks of Zagreb: The Mimara Museum, Croatian National Theatre and Zagreb University. For the end of the tour you will follow the Lenuci's "green horse-shoe" – 3 impressive squares and parks, passing the building of State Archives in Art-Déco style, Botanical Garden, and the Zrinjevac Park with a lot of buildings representing the typical architecture of Central Europe from the edge of 19th and 20th century. The story that we want to tell you is different from other tales about the city of Zagreb. This is the story of Zagreb's supernatural beings - witches, devil's daughters allegedly used magic to destroy the city and scare it's inhabitants. At the well of Manduševac in Jelačić square you will find the witches' emissary, and she will take you back to the mysterious depths of the history of Zagreb. She'll tell you who and what these mysterious witches of Zagreb were, what they apparently did, and how they were captured and tortured by people of Zagreb, while showing you places where they were tried, tortured and burned at stake. Also, we will introduce you to some real cases from the history of witches in Zagreb. However, be warned that this is no ordinary walk. This is an adventure. You will experience the horror of living in that period. What exactly, we cannot disclose, but we invite you to be brave and come to the well of Manduševac! Theme tour The Book Tour of Zagreb

How many of you paid attention at school and remembered all the facts and information about the writers and poets of your country's literature? Croatian literature has a long history and is filled with facts and information. Sound boring? Yes, we know. Wouldn't you like to hear some funny stories about Croatian literals while learning about Croatian literature? E.g. How did Marija Jurić Zagorka defy Hungarians, or why was Antun Gustav Matoš expelled from high school, or why was Tin Ujević banned from Belgrade? We will tell you many other interesting facts and anecdotes about the most representative of the Croatian and Zagreb writers, their private and public conflicts, quarrels with opponents, love life, successes and failures, as well as their life in pubs and their night life. You will also hear an occasional verse and poem during our walk through Zagreb. Come to the bust of Ljudevit Gaj in his street and get on a journey through the books of Zagreb, in the company of two very strange and unusual guides - good spirits of the city of Zagreb. Their millennia-old sense of humor, love of Zagreb and its prominent citizens-writers, and their stories will definitely put a smile on your face and maybe awaken a poet within you.
